Posted on 13 February 2023
If you’re a frequent user of Facebook Messenger and want it to start automatically when you sign in to your Windows computer, you can configure it to do so. By following the steps below, you can save time and ensure that Messenger is always available when you need it.
Method 1: Add a Shortcut to the Startup Folder
You can add a shortcut to the Facebook Messenger executable file in the Startup folder of your Windows user account. Here’s how:
- Press the Windows key + R on your keyboard to open the Run dialog box.
- Type “shell:startup” (without the quotes) and press Enter. This will open the Startup folder for your user account.
- Right-click an empty area in the folder, select New, and then click Shortcut.
- In the “Type the location of the item” field, enter the full path to the Facebook Messenger executable file (usually “C:\Users\[your username]\AppData\Local\Facebook\Messenger\Current\FacebookMessenger.exe”).
- Click Next and give the shortcut a name (e.g., “Messenger”).
- Click Finish.
Now, Messenger will start automatically when you log into your Windows user account.
Method 2: Use the Task Manager
You can also use the Task Manager in Windows to make Messenger start automatically on startup. Here’s how:
- Right-click the taskbar and select Task Manager.
- Click the “Startup” tab.
- Click the “Add” button.
- In the “Name” field, enter a name for the startup program (e.g., “Messenger”).
- In the “Command line” field, enter the full path to the Facebook Messenger executable file (usually “C:\Users\[your username]\AppData\Local\Facebook\Messenger\Current\FacebookMessenger.exe”).
- Click the “OK” button.
Now, Messenger will start automatically when you turn on your Windows computer.
With these methods, you can ensure that Messenger is always available without having to start the app manually each time you use your computer.
